Your Guide To IELTS Success First Time

IELTS is not that difficult as many non-native speakers of English language preparing to take the test think. We bring you online help and materials to help you pass your ielts first time. Follow our guide to succeed.

IELTS, an acronym for the International English Language Testing System, is a standardized English language test conducted by the British Council, The Australian-Asian Universities' Cooperation Scheme as well as the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations board, to assess the reading, listening, writing and speaking abilities of non-English individuals wishing to come to Britain or Australia for work or study.

The IELTS test is mandatory for certain professionals like doctors, nurses, and teachers who are coming into the UK from non- EU countries in order to get a job in the UK.

Increasingly, the IELTS is also required by institutions world over to assess students’ ability to effectively communicate in English Language.

You may also be required to demonstrate your proficiency in English language if you intend immigrating to settle or live in countries like the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

It is acceptable by upwards of 380 universities in North America alone.

Getting a job in the UK may then depend on your performance in this test.

It objectively measures the ability of candidates to understand, speak, and write in English Language. As mentioned earlier, the test assesses your listening, reading, writing and speaking skills and capabilities that will be required to carry our medium to high level of English language communication.

The Modules

Because of the differing levels of complexity English Language competencies that may be required depending on what you intend doing, the test comes in two modules:

The academic module is designed for all who intends to study a course in universities and colleges, or undergo professional training like overseas nurses or doctors.

The General Module of the IELTS is aimed at those who do not intend to undergo any higher academic pursuit (taken by entrants to secondary school level) , but just for purposes of non-highly skilled employment, or for immigration purposes.

Increasingly, the trend is towards taking the academic module since it has more wide acceptance, and can be used on all occasions. The General Module is also not available in certain centers.

In most places, and for most purposes, you will be required to achieve a score of 6.5 to 7 overall, especially for higher education and professional job positions.

The scores are banded, with a band starting from an overall score of 1 for non-user of the Language, to a band of 9 for expert user.
