First of all thank you for the information provided. It really is very useful.
I have a query about NMC registration requirements. I have all the requirements for NMC registrations like IELTS score and I am a registered nurse in my country but unfortunately I only have a six months working experience as a nurse.
I am here on ILR visa and have been working as a care assistant in a residential care home for past six months. I would like to apply for ONP what should I do? Will my working experience as a care assistant count towards the required working experience? Hoping to hear from you soon. Thank you.
Hello Saraswati Thapa,
Thanks for your query on NMC registration requirements, especially as it applies to your own peculiar case. I can see where you stand. You need at least 12 months experience as a nurse, to register with NMC for a decision letter to enable you do the ONP, but you only have six months experience.
Why not contact NMC directly and put this before them. You could argue that you intend working in residential home after your training, and so could they consider your six months, or even opt to do another 6 months in the residential / nursing home to make 12 months. You can call NMC on their telephone number, 020 7333 9333
If they would not allow that, then your best bet would be to either go back home and do another six months (since you are on a ILR visa, that should not be a problem), or you might consider starting all over again to train as a nurse here, if it is affordable (this last option is a very hard one, I believe).
