overseas trained nurse
by Haidee RN
Hello to everyone reading this forum.
I want to know if my qualification as a Registered nurse in the Philippines be acknowledged here in the UK? I have my British Citizenship now and would very much like to work as a nurse again. Will the NMC recognise my degree as a nurse trained abroad now That I am a British Citizen. I have worked on care homes and residential homes as a support worker for few years now, would the NMC just let me undergo an ONP (20 days or even upto 6 months supervised training) before I am eligible to register as a UK nurse here? Pls any advice will be very much appreciated.
Congratulations on your acquisition of British Citizenship. It certainly helps reduce the hurdles you have to go through in your journey to working as a nurse here in the UK.
What it does not guarantee however, is any preference or advantage in the laid down steps towards obtaining NMC recognition. You will still need to undertake your IELTS if not already done, apply for a decision letter, show that you meet the required 12 months experience of working as a nurse abroad, and any other requirement as it applies and listed above. You will not need to apply for a permit free training or overseas nursing training visa.
If you already have your IELTS and 12 months experience as a nurse, you can now proceed to apply for a decision letter and undertake the ONDP with any of the listed universities above (please follow link provided).
What were your thoughts ? Please if there is any way we can be of help, do not hesitate to let us know.
